KRISTA FIRKUS
DIRECTOR OF MUSIC
Krista's Story:
Isaiah 55:12 comes to mind when I think about worship. It says, "For you shall go out in joy, and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands." The image of all of nature praising makes me think that God must enjoy music so much that God created an innate musical expression in all of creation, and that God recognizes and appreciates each unique voice, be it birds, rocks, trees, or even me. This belief that every voice is pleasing to God is what led me to take on the role as Music Director at First Presbyterian Church of Covington in 2019. It is also what led me to get my Bachelor's of Music in Music Education from Berry College and my Master's of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of South Carolina. I have spent the past twelve years teaching others to use their voice and other musical talents in preschools, k-8th grade classrooms, at Gordon State College, and in private settings. I have loved my time at FPC getting to know our wonderful singers and ringers. I love working to come together to make a joyful noise to the Lord!
