Sam Hay PNC Chair
Sam Hay is a native of Covington and a lifelong member of our church. He worked for 20 years in banking and is now a partner in Fowler Properties, which manages and develops commercial real estate. Sam went to Davidson College and UNC at Chapel Hill. He has served as an elder in our church working with finance and stewardship. He is also currently involved as a volunteer with Boy Scouts and Piedmont Healthcare. Sam has been married to Loucy Tittle Hay for 30 years and they have two children, Sam, who is 20, and Allie, who is 16. Sam enjoys the outdoors, hunting, exercise and Angus cattle.

Jodi Walden Atkins
Jodi Walden Atkins has attended FPC Covington since the age of 2 and was baptized and confirmed into the church when she was 12 years old. She actively participated in the Youth & Children’s programs and served as a Youth Elder during her senior year of high school. Jodi works full-time as the Marketing Director for The Arts Association in Newton County. Jodi and her husband, Jonny reside in Oxford.

Patrick Carmichael
Patrick Carmichael and his wife Janet moved to Covington, GA in 2009, after retirement. Patrick’s
career as an International Management and Development Consultant involved extensive travel over-
seas. Covington seemed like an ideal place for retirement. The family attended the United Methodist
Church in Stone Mountain, but transferred to First Presbyterian Church when to moved Covington.
Patrick enjoys being active in church activities, and served in both churches as Elder, Certified Lay
Leader, and Adult Sunday School Teacher. Also participates in Mission and Advocacy Ministries. Patrick is active within the community serving as member of the Rotary Club of Covington, Past Chairman of the Newton County Chamber Small Business Committee, and Member of the Newton County Public Facilities Inc. committee.

Cheryl Gibson
Cheryl Gibson was born and raised in Queens, New York. She grew up in the Lutheran Church where she served in the choir and as an acolyte. Cheryl relocated with her parents to Georgia and remained in the Lutheran Church. She taught children’s Sunday School and served in the church nursery. After graduating from the University of Georgia, she worked as an elementary school teacher for both Clarke County and Gwinnett County school systems. She married her college sweetheart, Carter, and is now a stay-at-home mother to their four-year-old daughter, Daylanie. In April of 2014, Cheryl and Carter made First Presbyterian Church of Covington their church home. In her spare time, Cheryl enjoys reading, beading, and being with her family.

Warren Liem
Warren Liem is a native of Northeastern Pennsylvania, migrating to Miami, Florida, Tucker, Georgia, then to Covington, where he has resided for the last 12 years. Warren has been a Presbyterian for most of his adult life. He has been an active member of several churches in the greater Atlanta area. He attended Shallowford Presbyterian Church for many years, working on Habitat for Humanity projects, volunteering with the Food Pantry, and ushering. Warren and his wife, Jeanie, are charter members of Pleasant Hill PC. He later served as an elder at St. Andrews PC in Tucker. Since moving to Covington he and his wife, Jeanie, have been members of First Presbyterian Church and he previously served on the Session.

Stephanie Scarborough
Stephanie Scarborough grew up in the First Presbyterian Church of Covington has served on Session twice and is the Ruth Circle. Has a Bachelor degree from Shorter University works at Emory Internal Medicine. She has been member of the Pilot Club of Covington for twenty-one years and is currently serving as President.

Cy Wolverton
Cy Wolverton is an elder of the church and has served on the Session as a member of the Congregational Life & Care Team as well as the Facilities and Equipment Team. He is currently serving as a team member of the Strategic Planning Team. Jean & Cy have been members of First Presbyterian of Covington since 2005. They have two sons, one in Roswell and one in Charlotte, NC and six grandchildren of whom they are very proud.
